"Portrait of a Young Woman" by Tu Duyen, 36.5 x 29 cm, Ink and color on silk. Signed Tu Duyen with a red seal in the lower right corner. Tu Duyen: Tu Duyen (1915–2012), born Nguyễn Văn Duyến in Bát Tràng, is celebrated as the father of Vietnamese hand-stamped silk painting (Thủ Ấn Họa). After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine, he developed a unique technique using positive and negative woodblocks with finger-applied colors pressed onto silk. His works, often inspired by Vietnamese folklore and literature such as The Tale of Kieu, are held in the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, and were notably collected by David Rockefeller.
