£800 - £1,200
A Late Shin-Shinto Japanese Sword and leather scabbard cover. A late Shin-shinto katana signed Kashu no ju Katsukuni and dated Keio san nen ni gatsu hi (a day in February 1867) in Type 38 shingunto mounts. The saya (scabbard) is highly unusual since it is wood covered with fine ray or sharkskin. Even more unusual, the ishiizuki (chape) is of a rare patented type with an added drag, see 'Figure 15' in Fuller and Gregory. For some reason, the fittings and blade appear to have been plated post war. Comes with a leather scabbard cover. UK Mainland Shipping Only.
