A Japanese Sword - An Early Shinto Katana by Kanenobu. A katana by shodai Kanenobu signed Mutsu no kami Fujiwara Kanenobu dating to around Meireki (Circa 1655) as suggested in the extract from the Nipponto Meikan given below. The blade has a nagasa of 69.8cm, about 27½ inches, with a ko-nie deki sanbonsugi hamon and a clear hakikaki boshi. The jihada is a well-defined itame nagaru mixed with mokume. The blade is mounted in a high-quality Type 38 shingunto koshirae including a wooden saya, in dark green ishime lacquer, fitted with a rare kuchi-gane with engages with a fitting below the tsuba to completely seal the blade in the saya.
