Lot 20:
WW1 Imperial German S98/05 MS Butcher – Saw Back Bayonet Maker: Simson & Co Shul. The MS. (mit Säge – with saw) sawback was initially issued to Pioneer units, but soon became the favourite of the the Sturmtruppen (Shock troops) In 1917 Lord Kitchener decreed that any enemy soldier caught with a saw back bayonet would be executed on the spot. Most of the bayonets had the saw back ground back, but a few rare examples survived.
